At our recent Expo, one of the most popular vendors was the Blueberry Store. They showed up with quite a display of products and samples that really got people excited. The Blueberry Store is the retail end of MBG - The Michigan Blueberry Growers Association, a co-op of growers dedicated to spreading the good news about this wonder fruit. The co-op began back in 1936 in southwestern Michigan, and today is recognized as a leading marketer of cultivated blueberries, with sales in excess of $92 million annually. Recently, blueberries have been associated with anti-oxidants, and have since enjoyed an increased interest among the health-conscious.
As you can tell from their name, the Blueberry Store sells everything blueberry - I'm talking everything! Of course, they sell actual blueberries - both dried and frozen - in various package sizes. But it's what they produce from blueberries that makes the store interesting. It starts with a diverse array of jams, jellies and preserves, including blends with other fruits. You can also pick up blueberry syrup (great for pancakes or french toast), "blueberries foster" for a tasty dessert treat, or old-fashioned blueberry blossom honey. Don't forget you can drink the health benefits of blueberries in their BlueNectar juice, the delicious blueberry coffee, and herbal tea. If you're a more adventurous gourmet, check out the unique blueberry edibles such as: mustard, salsa, chutney and vinaigrette. There's no excuse NOT to enjoy the benefits of this healthy fruit.
In the early 1990's, as morale among blueberry growers was low due to a number of factors, the idea came up to start directly selling the products they were producing. Hence, the Blueberry Store retail outlet in South Haven, Michigan was born. If you're ever in the area, it's worth the stop in to absorb the sights and smells of products the store has to offer. Also, if you're at home and have a taste for anything blueberries, just visit their website for a complete product listing and on-line ordering, or find their products at participating southwest Michigan markets - icncluding D&W, Martin's, Harding's, and Oleson's. Enjoy the blueberry health-kick today! >>>
